Starting Sunday, I start a new job, taking care of mentally handicapped adults in their home. I just had my interview this morning, which went pretty well. I'll still be at my current job part time until December 4th, which after over three years of working at, I will no longer be part of.
This new job is completely different from what I'm used to. I've been doing customer service based work since just after high school graduation in 2007, so it's definitely going to be a learning experience. It's a temporary drop in pay, for the first 90 days, but after that, it'll be higher than what I've been earning here. I'm kind of excited and nervous at the same time, and it's a little bittersweet, because as rough as my job now can be, I'll miss some of the people.
Also, due to the nature of the new job, my Oppo access may end up limited for a little while, but I will do my best to keep up with this place.
Hooray for new opportunities!

Congrats on the new job! And what a great one, too. That's work you can really be proud of, directly making a real difference. Good luck!

That's something to be proud of
That's a life you can hang your hat on
That's a chin held high as the tears fall down
A gut sucked in, a chest stuck out
Like a small town flag a-flyin'
Or a newborn baby cryin'
In the arms of the woman that you love
That's something to be proud of

As the son of a parent who has Alzheim's, bless you. That is hard work but rewarding.
Congrats!

Thank you. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease, I know. My great grandmother had it. Not an awful form of it, but pretty well progressed. She lived until she was 94, passed away just over 12 years ago. I was barely a teenager then, but I did help take care of her.
I don't know how extreme this will be. I could be taking care of high functioning people, or low/non-functioning people. Either way, I'll be helping them get a better quality of life, which should be quite rewarding.
